Case Study (Method)

The WannaCry Ransomware Attack took place in May 2017. The attack damaged over 300k Windows computers in over 150 countries, taking advantage of a vulnerability in the Windows operating system (Chen & Bridges, 2017). In addition, it has been reported that India was the country with the most damage from this attack. Madhya Pradesh was the most affected region in the country, with 32.63% of ransomware attacks. Coming next was Maharashtra with 18.84% and Delhi with 8.76% share. Furthermore, several companies such as FedEx, Nissan, and railway companies in Germany and Russia were severely infected. Also, around 16 NHS corporations in the UK got infected too. Moreover, many colleges and student systems were affected in China (eScan, cited in Mohurle & Patil 2017).
